Xerox 5855c for sale

September 26th, 2005

Will you buy my…

“Xerox 5855CA purchased in 1998 for sale”

ANSWER: No. The Xerox 5855 copier is a b&w copier that reaches a high speed of 55 copies per minute. Our business model is selling equipment rated at 90 ppm and up. Therefore it is not a model we would stock.

We will sell low & mid-volume equipment as part of a large contract. We utilize key business partners, typically authorized Xerox dealers, to fulfill those needs which are usually for national or county wide contracts. EDITORS NOTE: While we firmly believe that Xerox is the #1 solution for high end equipment, there may be better value solutions for low and mid-volume units. Others agree which is why Xerox has lost over 70% of it’s market share over the years to competitors in those markets.

Disaster Recovery: CIO’s & CFO’s speak out

September 26th, 2005

Does IT matter? We’ve heard that question posed before in more than one seminar and magazine article. “Let’s unplug all the servers and see how long the business runs.” joked a CIO at a recent roundtable.

We know of some firms in New Orleans that had exactly that happen. Here in South Florida, I think we are immensely more prepared as a result of hurricane Andrew, That was the wake up call that really got Disaster Recovery rolling.

What is your primary disaster recovery strategy for your most critical operations? According to Gartner research:
36% outsourced Disaster Recovery
22% standby Disaster Recovery
21% production load sharing
18% Disaster Recovery to develop test
18% don’t know

One factor that may not be accounted for: people. In New Orleans they lost not only their plant, but their people who had many other issues to deal with. How prepared are you for that?

The Gartner report is fairly representative of what we have heard from South Florida businesses. Here are some specific examples of what businesses have done here:
- We put our old 4635’s in a building in North Carolina. They are not on service agreements. They sit there ‘in the event of’ need.
- We built a building to withstand category 5 hurricane, with multiple layers of infrastructure and self supporting power systems. We can house employees and their families safely within the core structure.
- We outsourced. The company works with us in developing and implementing a disaster recovery plan that involves equipment and people out of state. We’re in the second phase of a multi-year process.
- We don’t have a plan. We need one

Advantage-X offers a number of solutions including: placement of equipment on standby in a remote location, overflow printing in our own facility, personnel. Does it make sense to pay full Xerox prices when you are created a duplicate system at a ’standby facility’. We don’t think so. If you’ve never thought about Advantage-X before, this is one area CIO’s & CFO’s should closely examine when creating cost effective Disaster Recovery plans.
